Since starting at Compass I’ve been working on a large variety of projects that are designed to improve real estate agent’s productivity, helping them spend less time on the mundane, administrative (though necessary) work and more time on the human, client-facing work.

I’ve worked on everything from platform email composers, task management, team collaboration, and workflow automation—not to mention launching a successful IPO mid-pandemic. This is a peek at some of the work I’ve produced over the past 2 years.

Automated Workflows

Real estate agents loathe the repetitive work that’s required to keep their CRM updated and consistently stay in touch with their contacts. But when 80% of past clients say they would work with their agent again and only 20% actually do, agents know staying to of mind is crucial to earn that repeat, referral business.

We designed Action Plans to save agents’ time and energy by automating a large part of that process. Agents can use Compass-created templates to get started or design a plan from scratch. Action Plans allow agents to autimatically enroll contacts in plans, create task reminders, automatically send out emails, update their CRM data, and more.

Platform Email Composers

A major function within a CRM is the ability to send emails from directly within the platform. When I was first assigned the responsibility of managing communication within the CRM, I started with an audit and discovered that Compass had over 11 different experiences and UI components for how to send an email.

I set out to create an email composer that mimicked familiar patterns for agents, brought greater attention to the most important functions (templates and scheduling) and that could support the 11+ use cases throughout the platform and work responsively for any screen size or context.

Since the launch, we’ve seen the use of the email composer grow by over 11x and are continuing to make improvements in the power and functionality. It is now also part of the design system, so any team can easily plug the composer into their workflows, and help keep experiences throughout Compass consistent.

Task Management and Team Collaboration

Real estate agents are constantly juggling a huge list of to-do’s each day. We set out to build a workspace that could help agents keep track of their crowded to-do lists in a way that was powerfully integrated throughout the Compass platform, flexible and customizable to each agent’s specific needs, and helped them collaborate more seamlessly with their team.

I designed tasks to offer a simple way for agents to quickly capture what they need to do and still offers optional, yet powerful functions with quick inline editing. Agents can determine which action they want to take (like call, email, text etc.), who needs to do it, what it needs to be done for, and when it needs to be done. They can access their tasks from their desktop or phones.

All these pieces of functionality allow agents to remotely hand-off tasks and link to other parts of the Compass platform without having to use the internal navigation, thus making an agent’s workflow more seamless, and in turn, more productive.
